About that Windows warning.

If you download the desktop app, Windows will likely show a blue "Windows protected your PC" screen the first time you open the installer. Here's exactly what it means and what to do.

Click it, finish the install, and find AI Artifacts in your Start menu.

Why does this happen?

Microsoft Defender SmartScreen flags any Windows app it hasn't seen enough people run yet — it's a reputation check, not a virus scan. Every new installer from every publisher shows this at first, signed or not.

As more people install it safely from this official page, Windows learns the app is trusted and the warning stops appearing on its own. We're also working toward a formal code-signing certificate, which removes it immediately.

It's safe to continue as long as you downloaded the installer from this page. If you ever see this warning after downloading from anywhere else, stop and don't run it.

Questions about installing ✦

Why does Windows say "Unknown publisher"?
Formal Windows code-signing certificates are expensive and take time to build reputation under. Until ours is fully recognized by Microsoft, the installer runs unsigned — which is common for smaller and newer apps, not a sign of tampering.
Is it actually safe to click "Run anyway"?
Yes, provided the installer came from this page. The warning is Windows being cautious about any unfamiliar app, not a detection of a problem with this specific file.
What's actually different between the web app and the desktop app?
The web app is your existing browser session wrapped in its own window — same tab, no separate download, works on any device. The desktop app is a standalone native Windows program you install once; it opens AI Artifacts in a dedicated window with its own taskbar icon, separate from your browser entirely.
Can I use both, or switch later?
Yes. Both sign in with the same account, so your chats, credits, projects and generated work are identical either way. Install one now and add the other any time from Settings > Get the app.
Is there a Mac or Linux desktop app?
Not yet — the native installer is Windows-only for now. The web app install covers Mac, Linux, Chromebook and mobile today with the same features.
Do I need to install anything to use AI Artifacts?
No — everything on this page is optional. You can always use AI Artifacts directly in a browser tab with no install at all.
