Write the Shot Before You Make the Shot

A practical workflow for using research, prompts and visual references to plan an AI video concept.

Name what the viewer should notice

A shot description is stronger when it says what changes and why it matters. Identify the subject, action, setting and emotional beat before choosing adjectives for the look.

Describe the camera and movement

State the framing, camera movement, speed and point of view in plain language. These details turn a general scene into a visual plan that can be reviewed before a generation uses time or credits.

Use references and constraints

Add the visual references, duration, aspect ratio, continuity needs or exclusions that matter to the project. Constraints make alternate directions easier to compare and reduce vague iteration.

Review the result as a draft

Treat the first clip as evidence about the direction, not as a final answer. Note what worked, what changed unexpectedly and which part of the shot needs a clearer instruction next time.
